Parkinson’s Disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder that primarily affects the dopamine producing region of the brain. Motor symptoms can include slowed movements, tremor, small movements, and balance/gait problems (which includes shuffling or freezing of gait). Many individuals are unaware that there are non-motor symptoms which may include sleep pattern changes, cognitive changes, bowel/bladder changes, mood disorders, and pain to list a few. Exercise and balance training, when paired with medication, has shown to be an extremely effective approach at improving the life and function of those with PD. Specific exercises will be selected to address the specific impairments of each individual. The more exercise the better! Exercise is a true form of medicine for individuals with PD.
